10th International J.M. Sperger Competiton for Double Bass 2018

1st Round:

a) Johann Matthias Sperger
Two contrasting movements from one of following Sonatas for Double Bass and Piano

- T36 in b minor*
- T38 in D major
- T39 in D major
- T40 in D major

*Please note: There are many similarities to be found between the 1st and 3rd movements of the Concerto no. 18 and the b minor Sonata no. T36 by J.M. Sperger. Therefore, you may only include one of these two works in your competition program. All other combinations between the first and final rounds are possible. You are allowed to consult the Urtext editions of both final round concertos, which the state library in Schwerin has kindly placed at our disposal.

 

b) Emil Tabakov
Commissioned work for Solo Double Bass – The publishing house Friedrich Hofmeister Musikverlag will send the sheet music to all candidates by email, 6 weeks before the start of the competition.

 


 

2nd Round:

a) Johann Sebastian Bach
One of following Sonatas for Viola da Gamba (transcription)

- Sonata No.1 for Viola da Gamba in G major BWV 1027 
- Sonata No.2 for Viola da Gamba in D major BWV 1028

 

b) 
Single-movement Romantic virtuoso piece of choice.  Only original work for Double Bass and Piano permitted.

 


 

3rd. Round Semi-final:
