Emil Tabakov studied double bass and conducting at the Bulgarian Music Academy in Sofia. Principal conductor of the Bulgarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for many years, he guest conducts leading orchestras worldwide, including the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Seoul Philharmonic and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Emil Tabakov has composed nine symphonies, concertos for various instruments, a Latin-based Requiem, chamber and solo works. Most of his works were commissioned by major artists and international festivals. His recordings for Naxos, Gega, DG and Balkanton have been awarded several prizes.
